Description

Production of PEX

Potassium Ethyl Xanthate is produced by reacting amyl alcohol with carbon disulfide and potassium hydroxide. The reaction is as below:

CH₃CH₂OH + CS₂ + KOH → CH₃CH₂OCS₂K + H₂O

Unlike the related sodium ethyl xanthate, the potassium salt exists as an anhydrous salt.
